Album Description
Favourite Worst Nightmare is everything you
hoped Arctic Monkeys would do next. Not so
much a sequel as an upgrade, a breakneck
technicolour journey through screwball punk
and guitar-fuelled dancefloor heroics, it's

infinitely more to Arctic Monkeys than
writing pretty little ditties, yet at the
same time boasting some of the strongest
songs they've ever written.

About the Artist
You could never accuse Arctic Monkeys of
making anything easy for themselves. Their
debut album `Whatever People Say I Am,
That's What I'm Not', topped every
end-of-year poll going, and became the
fastest-selling debut in British chart
history. Those are just the facts. But
revolutions are about more than mere facts;
and this rewired a generation, broke the
boundaries between the moshpit and the
dancefloor, invalidated the whole concept of
celebrity culture to become that rarest of
things, a smash hit with its soul intact.
Most bands take years to whip up that sort
of acclaim.

How could even these four talented young men
hope to follow that Forgive us for stating
the obvious, but you go and make a better
one. Arctic Monkeys had actually started
work on `WPSIA,TWIN' with Simian Mobile
Disco's James Ford and Mike Crossey, before
they'd really become producers du jour, but
for one reason or another, the sessions were
abandoned and the job was completed by Jim
Abiss. But sensing kindred spirits - and
with a renewed sense of confidence in their
instincts after everything went so
spectacularly right first time - they
returned to their old mentors, whose star
had risen in line with their own over the
previous two years. "I think it was very
obvious from when we did that first session
that it was sound with them," affirms Alex,
"they understood it." "And," adds Jamie,
"they're not much older than us really."

After locking themselves away from the world
first time round, the band decided to record
in Miloco Studios in Shoreditch, East
London, "getting all new rave in East
London," says Matt, slyly. The experience
saw them embrace full flow of the city,
going out, living life and even having a bit
of a party. "I think you can really hear it
in the snare sound!" jokes Matt, but he's
closer to the truth than he thinks.

The other big change within the ranks of
Arctic Monkeys was the introduction of old
friend Nick O'Malley on bass halfway through
last year. This, too, was taken in
everybody's stride. "I'd known them all
since I was 10 years old," says Nick of his
new bandmates. "We've all lived in the same
area, so it wasn't like coming into a band
where I didn't know what they'd be like.
It's just been a laugh really, it's been
fine."s

The Twang release what can only be described as
their hugely anticipated debut album, 'Love It When
I Feel Like This'. Recorded with long term producer
Gavin Monahan at his Magic Garden Studios in
Wolverhampton and mixed by Mark ‘Spike’ Stent at
Olympic Studios, 'Love It When I Feel Like This'
follows their debut single, 'Wide Awake' which
crashed into the UK charts at number 15.
As with all "overnight successes" The Twang are not
the product of six months work. When guitarist Stu
Hartland became the last to join two years ago, the
band had already put in three years of demoing,
gigging, chasing Noel Gallagher across the
Glastonbury fields to try and give him a demo. It is
testament to their belief in themselves that they
got this far.
The debut album brings together the best of their
work in those two years, from the full on dance
inflected grooves of 'Ice Cream Sundae' and 'Loosely
Dancing' to the confessionals of 'Wide Awake' and
'Got Me Sussed', Phil Etheridge’s knack of defining
universal experiences with humour and insight to the
fore throughout. Fusing their well documented love
of guitar music from Oasis through to the current
time with their equal love of dance music from an
adolescence spent clubbing, the album draws on a
catalogue of genres over its eleven tracks.
In the six months since their debut London gig, much
has been written about The Twang. They are lads,
they are "wild", they are the new spirit of rock ‘n’
roll. All of which have some truth but to really
understand The Twang listen to 'Don't Wait Up' and
then 'Got Me Sussed' or 'The Neighbour' and 'Either
Way'. These songs are not caricatures of laddish
life but documents of the excess and regret, the
highs and lows of normal life. When you've "spent
the shopping money" as "a couple turned into ten"
('Don't Wait Up'), then it's inevitable that the
hammer will fall and you admit that, "I did it to
myself so I shouldn't complain" ('Got Me Sussed').
The Twang are a gang but they're a hardworking gang,
they're from the normal life lived in towns and
cities across the country but they want more and
they are getting it. Most importantly, they've
achieved their initial goal; to make this record and
dоcument the world as they see it, the world as
they, and their friends (who are a huge part of this
story and this album), live it. They are the most
talked about band of this year but they are also one
of the brightest hopes to emerge from the UK in
years. As they say themselves on album (and live set
closer) 'Cloudy Room', "there's no going back from
here".

LEVY, a band that came out of NYC and formed in
September 2003.

"James Levy the heart of the group, a young
balladeer and writer of all the songs and music,
started out solo, playing gigs at the Sidewalk in
the city’s East Village.

James was part of the scene that came to be known as
the “anti-folk movement” which included Moldy
Peaches Adam Green and Kimya Dawson, Regina Spektor
and others that were quickly scooped up by the music

LEVY had a quick rise up NYC music scene elite,
playing gigs with national bands - Athlete,
Razorlight, Adam Green, Regina Spektor, Gene Dreamy,
Gary Sincere and The Zutons. LEVY’s buzz spread
across the city and they became darlings of the
hipster clubs. This street cred landed them local
press and interest soon spread across the bridges
and out of town. LEVY’s music was tipped on
internet-blog Podcaster playlists: from NYC, up to

artists of the month. They were all over the bespoke
internet like hand-done embroidery. Podcasters
around The States – Chicago now, then LA, San Diego
catching up - were podcasting LEVY's music before
podcasters became the in thing. That started back in

selected LEVY in its music edition as a “band to
watch” for in 2005. LEVY’s track “On the Dance
Floor” can be heard in Scottie Marshall’s feature
film “Lucky 13” and “Rivka” can be heard in the
French Canadian young adult drama “Love 15”, which
airs in France, Canada and Quebec.

True to form, the new Stars album contains two songs
about protesters and no protest songs—Torquil
Campbell and Amy Millan’s chamber-pop troubadours
remain doggedly interested in people, not their
ideas. (Stars’ best song is “Elevator Love Letter,”
about Campbell’s Gatsbian love for rich-girl Millan;
their worst is “He Lied About Death,” about Bush.)
Even confined to the first subject the band’s skill
varies: “Take Me to the Riot,” warm and expansive,
is a fine shallow anthem, but “Barricade,” a wistful
ballad about the romance of cruelty (“How could
anyone not love the terrible things you do?”) isn’t
Nabokov; it isn’t even Mickey Spillane.

In Our Bedroom After the War, though it contains
nothing on the level of the band’s best or worst, is
the handiest inventory yet of Stars’ obsessions,
M.O.s, strengths and failings. A young band and
pretty, concerned with surfaces which always turn
out to be warped or pocked in ways many wouldn’t
bother to notice; sonically generous, lyrically
inclusive; a little full of themselves. The lyrics
of the album’s first real song, “The Night Starts
Here,” are a list of the kind of things Stars songs
are about: “the time we have,” “the task at hand,”
“the dusk at dawn,” “the being free,” “that big
black cloud over you and me.” The litany hums along
through skittering drums and distant, twinkling
keyboards, and eventually Campbell and Millan sing
together, and it’s a little beautiful, the way
couples leaving restaurants are beautiful, or senior
prom. Such carpe noctum is Stars’ strong suit; few
bands are as good at making songs to score nighttime
journeys of nebulous purpose. Sometimes they
strain—“Life 2: The Unhappy Ending” sinks under a
too-trivial circular melody and a cinematic conceit
that doesn’t work—but the songs most in danger of
being intolerable can become highlights—the
penultimate “Today Will Be Better, I Swear!,” with a
title and chorus sprung from Sufjan Stevens’
nightmares, would close the album better than the
awful title track. (Hemingway condemned war for the
lovers it tore apart; Stars for the damper it puts
on young urbanites’ days.)

Music comes from many different places. Some of it
comes from happy accidents; a lot of it comes from
the programmed, laboratory environment of a hit
factory. Very occasionally, great pop music comes
from somewhere deeper within the soul. So it is with
The Orange Lights. Their epic, widescreen guitar
soul has melodies that scare the sky and words that
come laden with meaning and tug at the heartstrings.
One listen and there's every chance you'll be
hooked. This was definitely the case for fabled
Coldplay producer Ken Nelson, who ignored the pile
of lucrative offers from major artists and chose
instead to work with The Orange Lights when they
were still unsigned. Nelson felt - and responded to
- the band's music and their passion. It was a
similar case for Richard Ashcroft producer Chris
Potter, who worked on the album initially, and Chris
Lord-Alge, the LA-based award-winning mix engineer

Release Notes:

Local, though it is indeed the case, may not be the best way in which to
introduce to you new Twin Cities band Weaver at the Loom. Often times, the word
can carry a mildly negative connotation. Thoughts of a band playing a perpetual
cycle of shows around the local club circuit and regional events doesn't exactly
scream "success". Although WATL has only existed as a band for a few months and
certainly has some local level DIY time to put in, my bet is that they won't be
confined to the Twin Cities much longer.

The band's debut, "I Was Searching And I Found", is begging to be heard. The EP,
which is essentially a mini-concept album, weaves a small saga in out and out of
the 5 song collection. Though each track is still markedly of its own design,
the entire disc is packed with overwhelmingly beautiful and engaging melodic pop
songs. "Buck Up, They're Coming," which is the disc's formidable opener,
commences with a simple piano riff before launching into an epic guitar overlay
that is able to showcase Weavers' academic approach to songwriting. Academic
approach? Yes. Apparently a good portion of the band's members are serious and
developed students of music. It's evident, because debuts just simply aren't
this impressive. In perhaps my favorite effort on the EP, the band is able
cruise through 6 minutes of exchange between a serene sounding piano and
acoustic guitar in "But You Enjoy Life Before And After". Like most of the
tracks of the disc, the song culminates in an electrifying chorus before fading
back into the band's seemingly signature placidity. All the while, songwriter
Dan Smith's impeccable vocals carry us eagerly from one song to the next.

As you can see, I've got far too many good things to say about Weaver at the
Loom and nearly nothing to complain about. Inevitably, a band with songs of this

“It is what it is…” Simple words that are well suited for the way
My Little Radio came together as a band. After years of playing
music in and around the city of Boston, the members of MLR
seemed to simply find each other by chance.

Through various last ditch attempts to find like-minded band mates,
Christian Hidalgo is the founding member of the band. With the exception
of bassist Will Lopez, each member of MLR was found by shear coincidence...

“The fact that, aside from the music, we were virtually unknown to each
other really made things interesting. When you can sit down, and totally
click with another person just based off of what is being created… that’s
the best feeling in the world”, says guitarist Nick Twohig.

“We each realized that we’d come to the point where we’d rather be playing
music than doing anything else”, says Kate.

MLR released their debut full length, My Little Radio (2007), on February 2 ,
2007 to a sold out crowd at TT The Bear’s Place in Cambridge, Ma. It was
produced by legendary British producer/engineer/all-around-amazing-person
Matthew Ellard ( Weezer, Converge, Mighty Mighty Bostones, Elliott Smith,
Between the Buried and Me, etc).

MLR has kept busy in the last year or so playing at such venues/festivals as
Milwaukee Summerfest, The Halifax Pop Explosion, The International Pop
Overthrow, The NEMO Boston Music Awards (nominated for best local rock
band, best local female vocalist), CBGB’s, NXNE, and many more.

although you're likely to have never heard of roam the hello
clouds before, there's a good chance that one or more of their
members have crossed your musical path on numerous occasions. an
aussie three piece made up of laurence pike (the drummer in aussie
jazz-tronic experimentalists triosk, post rockers pivot and
interestingly, with prefuse 73), laptop man dave miller (of pivot)
and respected trumpeter phil slater - they initially got together
for a one off performance, but as soon as they realised how well
they worked together they booked themselves into the studio.

'near misses' is the result of a single day of improvisation in
the studio, but across ten tracks the band manage to distil
everything that really works in electronic jazz. it's a tricky
genre and one that all too often ends up sounding overworked and
pretentious, but what makes 'near misses' such a hit is that it
feels like the three musicians had a really good time putting
these pieces together.

a good comparison might be david moufang's essential conjoint
project or indeed pike's triosk project, but roam the hello clouds
is a much more bass-heavy experiment and that is eventually what
endears it to the scape label. although scape has experimented
with jazz before, this is probably their most out-and-out jazz
record to date, but the backbone of electrically charged dub is
ever present and i must say the basslines on 'near misses' really
hold the record together more than any of its other ingredients.

with clouds of pike's glockenspiel floating over laptop hiccups,
tight percussion and phil slater's incredible horn-work (think
'bitches brew' era miles and you'll be on the right track) this is
the collision many of us have been waiting for and thankfully
never sinks into the world of coffee table lounge music. an album
worthy of the experimental jazz heritage of chicago, this should
appeal to hardened scape fans and jazz heads alike. recommended.Ссылка:
